Fairbanks Paddlers Virtual AnnualMeeting and Paddling Film Watch Party
Fairbanks Paddlers will hold its Annual Meeting in a virtual format over Zoomon Friday, November 6 at 7 pm. Without our customary potluck and gear swap, thebusiness meeting will be short, as we have had to cancel or postpone anumber of our usual events this year. We welcome creative new ideas of how theclub can adapt activities for the coming season in light of current challenges. Attendees are also encouraged to share brief descriptions of some oftheir paddling outings this past summer and fall. We have a couple of boardpositions to fill, and will elect candidates at the end of the meeting.
In lieu ofhaving a guest speaker, we will have a watch party featuring a couple offilms that we would have shown at our annual Paddling Film festival that we hadplanned for last May. We have received permission to select a few filmsto download and share through our virtual meeting. The board has chosen toshow the following 3 films:
Solo Kayak Adventure in India
KayakerNouria Newman embarks on a solo, multiday descent on the raging waters of theIndus River in the Himalayas. The Great Route
Thisincredible SUP trip along the west coast of Greenland shows the effects ofclimate change in the high north. Standup paddler Michael Walther, photographerDaniell Bohnhof and filmmaker Maximilian Stolarow follow a route from Aasiaatto Ilulissat to discover life on the rough island in the past and present. Inaddition to icebergs, never-ending days and frigid temperatures, they meetValdemar Petersen, an 84-year-old hunter and poet. The Great Route inspiresaction to protect this unique northern region. Svahatells the remarkable story of a 2,000-mile, three-month sea kayak expeditionacross the Caribbean Sea, from Grenada to Miami, through some of the world’smost treacherous waters.
